LADIES WEEKEND OUT // MOUNT SHASTA

BACKCOUNTRY SKIING & SPLITBOARDING

INFO & REGISTRATION

It’s been a long time coming, but Ladies Weekend Out is incredibly excited to announce we’re heading to Mount Shasta in the Spring to host our inaugural LWO Mount Shasta backcountry skiing and splitboarding event!

Come rip some skins with us and partake in one of the most anticipated LWO events of the year, Ladies Weekend Out Mount Shasta, May 16th - 18th! Eight lucky Ladies will have the opportunity to ski and splitboard on one of the most iconic volcanos in the lower 48 states, Mount Shasta. Shasta is the 5th tallest peak in California, and one of twelve coveted 14er’s, making this snow capped peak one you’ll want to shred all weekend long from top to bottom. Residing at the southern terminus of the volcanic Cascade Range, Mount Shasta is in a league all on her own and plays host to some of the finest ski and splitboard mountaineering objectives our state has to offer including the classic ski descent of Avalanche Gulch (one of the 50 classic ski descents). Scroll below to find out more about our Ladies Weekend Out Mount Shasta event and to register today!

Each of our Ladies Weekend Out events are crafted with the individual participant in mind, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring LWO to the Cascades and Mount Shasta! Our goal is to foster a close-knit, supportive atmosphere where you’ll connect with like-minded women and receive dedicated, one-on-one guidance from experienced guides and instructors. The friendships and memories made here are what make each LWO event truly unforgettable. We hope to see you out there with us on Shasta this spring!

We’ll meet at a pre-determined location in the town of Mount Shasta to sort any gear and discuss the game plan before we head up to Bunny Flats trailhead to begin the trip. On our first day we’ll take in the scenery as we tour up to our basecamp for the weekend. After camp is set up, we’ll head out for an afternoon tour on the lower flanks of Avalanche Gulch and get a few spring season turns in! Throughout day one we’ll be speaking to touring tips and tricks, as well as reviewing basecamp setup and best practices. Day one will end back at our campsite where we’ll prep for the following day.

    SATURDAY, MAY 17TH

We’ll have a couple of options for our guests on day two. Option one will be to have a day out on the lower flanks of Avalanche Gulch once again, but going higher than our high point the previous day. We’ll be sure to get multiple laps in with those who decide to stay lower on the mountain. This first option will also have the luxury of sleeping in a bit later in the morning. For those looking for a potential summit of Mount Shasta, we will look to have an alpine start, beginning our tour up Avalanche Gulch well before the sun rises. For those choosing this second option, we will conduct a brief snow skills review the day before to ensure you’re comfortable using an ice axe and crampons. All guests are welcome to participate in the snow skills course.

    SUNDAY, MAY 18TH

For those looking for a few final turns, we’ll rise early to get a lap in before we break down camp and head back to the trailhead. Once back at the trailhead we’ll debrief the weekend with the group, reflect on the incredible weekend we just had, and bid each other farewell!

  • Food and lodging is not included in the cost of this event. LWO can supply any avalanche equipment needed as well as a harness, helmet and crampons for those in need.

It’s in the best interest of the group that any guest who registers for Ladies Weekend Out Mount Shasta is a competent resort skier or rider. This means being able to ski or snowboard down black diamond runs at the resort. Thanks in advance for your honesty before registering.

All Ladies will be responsible for their own camping equipment for the trip. The Fifth Season in the town of Shasta is a great shop to stock up on all your needs before the trip. They specialize in rental equipment as well.

For those who are interested in splitboarding, we have a handful of Weston Backcountry demo boards we can rent for the trip. Please feel free to inquire about this upon registration.

Cost of the trip does not include a Mount Shasta summit pass. We will all purchase this the day of at the trailhead.

If you enjoyed your trip, we encourage you to show your appreciation to our guides with a tip : )

Ladies Weekend Out acknowledges that Mount Shasta is considered a sacred mountain by many Indigenous peoples, and it has different names depending on the native languages of the surrounding tribes. One common native name for Mount Shasta is Waka-nunee-Tuki-wuki, used by the Achumawi (Pit River) people, which translates to "center of creation" or "center of the world." However, other names and interpretations exist depending on the specific tribal perspectives. Mount Shasta is home to the Shasta, Modoc, Want, Karuk, Klamath, Achumawi and Atsugewi Tribes. Each of these tribes maintains unique legends, stories, and spiritual practices connected to Mount Shasta, emphasizing its significance as more than just a geographical feature—it is a cornerstone of cultural identity and spirituality.
